Yes. Irish law does not restrict VPN use, and companies, universities and private users rely on them every day. Ireland follows the GDPR like the rest of the EU, and because many large tech companies run their European operations from Dublin, the Irish Data Protection Commission supervises a good share of them.

Ireland does have some online restrictions. At the request of rights holders, the High Court has ordered Irish internet providers to block certain piracy and illegal streaming sites. Since 2025, the Online Safety Code has required video-sharing platforms based in Ireland to check the age of users for adult content. Some people try to get around blocks like these with a VPN or proxy, but the rules stay the same whatever connection you use, so it is worth being careful.

A VPN changes how your traffic travels: it is encrypted, and websites see the VPN's address instead of your IP address. Your obligations under Irish law and the terms of the services you use do not change. If you are new to this, the Browsec VPN blog explains what a VPN is.
