The main blocking regime in Switzerland concerns gambling. Under the Federal Gambling Act, in force since 2019, the Federal Gaming Board (ESBK) and the intercantonal authority Gespa publish lists of unlicensed casino, betting and lottery sites, and Swiss internet providers block those domains at DNS level. The lists now run to thousands of entries. Some people reach such sites through a VPN or proxy, but that does not make the offer licensed in Switzerland, and players lose the protection that comes with a licensed operator, so it pays to be careful.
A VPN encrypts the traffic between your device and the VPN service and shows websites a different IP address. Swiss law and the terms of each service still apply. More on how this works is in the article What Is a VPN on the Browsec VPN blog.
